A song Getting Used To Quarantine (The Best in Us)
Written by Rory March 2020 in response to the worldwide Covid Virus pandemic lockdown.

This is A home made demo recording, Work in Progress. sketch of a song written during the Corona Virus lock down Quarantine. Would have liked to add two more voices to sing and share different verses.

’The Best In Us’ -(Getting Used To Quarantine)
March-April 2020.
Music and Lyrics by Rory Mcleod.

Rory All Vocals
Harmonica
Guitar
Banjo
Bass Harmonica
Chinese Bell
Percussion.
Drum Loops Borrowed.
All Birds Recorded in The Scottish Borders.

All Birds are local M.U. members though none of them sing bass! So I had to sing that part…too.

Engineered and Mixed by Rory

Maybe this is a sombre song for some... I was surprised to realise the gloom that was here but there’s Truth hope...and always yearning.

by now we’re fed up with hearing about lockdown
It’s changing us...
In good and bad ways...
I wanted to sing about it...
There are some 'corpses'…in the song, as there have been many losses around the world.
And some yearning….
and perhaps there's a silver lining....for some who have not lost loved ones.
In a way to understand life we need to know death and loss…maybe it can help because it’s an inquiry into the nature of existence.

A song story I made... or it made me and this story is making us... I guess that’s why...among many other reasons...why some people whittle and carve, knit, cook or paint or.... here’s to the exhausted front line workers, nurses doctors and carers. X

” ‘Back to Donegal’ is a Bacchic delight of banjo, fiddle, Uillean pipe and spoons-filled Irish tunes. A joyous travelogue. (A high energy ‘Coney Island’) And there’s social criticism that’s not detached and dogmatic. Rather, he breathes a passionate angry fire into songs about the ruin and rot of our country..(the Rhumba-esque ‘Defending our Homes’) or racism (a hearty adaption of Broonzy’s Black Brown and White)

And then there’s a more light -hearted edge. ‘Compatability’ a chirpy duet, is a witty analysis of a relationship.

Soulful, passionate and transcendent. A blinder of a record.” Folk Roots- UK.
